Organizations
and individuals sometimes need an "outsider" offering
fresh perspectives on problems or challenges. I can
perform specific assignments on your behalf (detailed
below), and I ask questions that empower you to find your
own answers. (Personal coaching
might be an adjunct in some cases.) My clients, so far,
have ranged from across the United States as well as from
Europe and Africa.

To Whom it May Concern:
After consulting with various
publishing experts, Otto Siegel and I were
confident we had a quality book that was
well positioned to carry our message to
many readers. Although we had expert input
all along the way in creating our book
(Yes, You Are a Genius - Whether You
Know it or Not), we still
decided to hire Judah as a book consultant
to perform:
- Book Editing
- Book Design
- Cover Design
|
|
Judah's work transformed our book from
good to outstanding.
He is an expert editor who was able to
further clarify our message while
improving the style. Otto and I are from
Germany, so English is a second language,
which is why we'd already had the book
edited by an editing professional. Judah
was able to find and correct many grammar
and style errors. The book now conveys a
more powerful message. Readers have told
us that they enjoyed reading the book so
much that they will read it again and
again.
Judah further designed all aspects of
the book interior (including the page
layouts and graphics), and he contributed
to the cover design. From first
impressions of the book, we've heard many
times the following positive feedback: "I
am so impressed with the quality of your
book. I read a lot of books, but yours
stands out by far."
Judah provided his expertise beyond the
scope of our initial contract. His
generous feedback and honesty wasn't
always easy to hear, but he helped us to
avoid many first-time author mistakes, and
his solid commitment to excellence
ultimately caused us to have a much better
book.
All the best,
Susanna Lange

Going
Green:
Does your
venture make global sense? Business owners and
managers wishing to create a sustainable enterprise often
feel overwhelmed by the process. Where do you start? How
do you prioritize your efforts? How do you ensure that
your sustainable practices will also sustain
profitability? Whether you run a major multinational
corporation, a small local company (like a bookstore), or
a nonprofit organization, if your operation is going
green, I can help you identify and evaluate your options
in these areas:
- Green Facilities Design &
Maintenance
- Green Business Administration
- Green Products and Services
- Green Supply Chain Management
- Green Marketing & Media Relations
- Green Customer & Investor Relations
- Green Community Relations
- Social Responsibility
My services can range from simple one-day
presentations to a series of staff trainings to actually
performing the tasks involved with going green. I also
offer ongoing coaching for your "going green" project
management team.
My approach is to empower your people for the long
term. Quick fixes do not endure. I favor the model of
teaching a person to fish, so she or he can feed the
family for a lifetime, yet I am willing to catch the fish
for you, at least at first. Please choose what works best
for you.
I recommend a five-phase approach to Going
Green:
Phase 1. Your Green Audit
The initial audit includes energy use, water use,
HV/AC, office consumables (especially paper), waste
management, food service and vending machine products,
cleaning products and methods, plus staff transportation
and communication choices. I can train your going green
team to perform all of these assessments themselves (the
most cost-effective solution), or I can do this on your
behalf.
Phase 2. Identifying Green Options
Here is the research phase of the transition. Having
identified in Phase 1 what you are already doing right
and what needs to done differently, the focus now is
developing a list of options to choose from. As in
brainstorming, do not filter options for practicality or
fiscal viability; that will come later. For now you want
the widest possible array of choices. I can train your
going green team to identify these options themselves
(the most cost-effective solution), or I can do this on
your behalf.
Phase 3. Making Green Choices
I advocate decision-making rooted in fiscal
realities. A complete cost-benefit analysis should
include such intangibles as long-term ecological effects,
but the only way you can have a zero-carbon footprint is
to close your doors and go out of business. There are
obvious choices, like replacing incandescent light bulbs
with compact florescent or LED bulbs, but most of the
"going green" choices involve tradeoffs, which require
pragmatic thinking. For this third phase, I can train
your team in how to make green decisions that make global
sense (the most cost-effective solution), or I can
prepare a detailed report with options and
recommendations for your consideration.
Phase 4. Your Green Plan
Once you decide on how you you want to go green, the
next step is developing an organization-wide plan for
going green. Along with developing strategies and tactics
(with benchmarks and decision points) for implementing
changes in your policies and practices, you need to
design a plan for shifting your organizational culture,
so all members adopt the habits of thinking green and
acting green. This internal shift of personal awareness
into "global sense" is the most critical element of the
process if you want a permanent change in how your
organization thrives on earth.
Phase 5. Actually Going Green
This phase is the most challenging and important. I
can give inspirational and educational talks your offices
and at industry conferences, or I can train your Going
Green team to give these talks themselves. However, this
only opens the mental doors to green thinking. Follow-up
is essential. I encourage a robust three-month to one
year education and awareness campaign that includes
memos, articles in company newsletters (or e-letters),
brief green reporting and teaching components in staff
meetings, establishing green team champions in each
office (e.g., to monitor paper recycling), plus creating
incentives and recognition for green success. This
program needs to be reinforced annually for lasting
benefits. As before, your most cost-effective approach
will be for me to train your own people to lead this
effort within the organization.
A Useful Approach:
For most organization, I'd suggest a three-day
training program for Phase I and Phase II at some central
location with all of your Going Green team members along
with your top leadership. (This can be done as a video
teleseminar, which saves on travel costs and reduces
environment impact, but in-person does yield the deepest
impact.) I'd then suggest another three-day conference or
teleseminar with these same people for Phase 3
decision-making and Phase 4 planning. For Phase 5 actions
and follow-up, I'd encourage quarterly one-day or even
two-day Green Team gatherings or teleconferences for one
or two years to discuss progress, problems and solutions
-- plus added training for success. (Quarterly sessions
reinforce motivation.) If you wish me to personally give
talks or conduct trainings in some or all of these
quarterly gatherings, I would be happy to do so. Weekly
or monthly individual or group coaching for Green Team
leaders and members also can be part of your package
deal, if you choose.

New
Media:
After more than 15
years of experience reporting on media technology and
business trends, I'm strongly interested in the
development of media content and technologies for the
digital and interactive television marketplace as well as
Internet 2.0.
Potential
consulting activities may include the evaluation of new
technologies, potential market assessments,
identification of content distribution channels,
researching strategic alliances or joint ventures, plus
strategic and logistical planning for product or network
development and launches. Print publications going
digital on the Web are a specialty.
My most recent
projects were the preliminary research for launching a
joint VDSL/satellite television network in East Africa,
and market research for HD ambient video content produced
in Central Europe.
Please scan through
the media journalism
section of the website to see the range of my knowledge
and expertise. Also, please visit my bio
webpage for more about my background.
Personal
Coaching
may be a helpful adjunct to my business consulting
services.
Consulting
typically is best done face-to-face, often at your
location, yet many projects can be done remotely from
Denver. (Consulting services are not available to media
companies I cover as a media trade journalist, sorry.)
